2020 IADR Centennial Emerging Leaders Award to Dr. Gustavo G. Nascimento, Denmark

Gustavo G. Nascimento earned his dental degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, which comprised a research internship at the University of Illinois at Chicago, USA. He has a Ph.D. from the Federal University of Pelotas, Brazil, after having spent one year at the Australian Research Centre for Population Oral Health, University of Adelaide, Australia. Gustavo did a post-doctoral training at Aarhus University, Denmark, where he currently holds an associate professorship. In addition to the IADR Centennial Emerging Leader Award, Gustavo has been a recipient of the Brazilian Ministry of Education Outstanding Ph.D. Thesis Award (in the field of Dentistry) and the Bagger-Sørensen Young Researcher Award (Denmark).
Gustavo has focused his research on different facets of periodontal epidemiology, including methodological aspects of periodontal research and the relationship between periodontitis and systemic diseases. He is also interested in the role played by oral inflammation in the development of halitosis and the senses of smell and taste.
